Babymoon Recap

So, this is a few weeks late but I wanted to make sure that I recapped the Babymoon because it has definitely been an important part of this pregnancy and should be adequately documented!

We knew that we wanted to take some kind of trip before the baby was born--partly because our lives are about to change forever, partly because this is our first year of both having "real" jobs with vacation time, and partly because we felt like we would have earned some kind of reward for making it through the 10 weeks of Aaron's training in San Antonio.  We were really hoping to take a trip with my brother and his girlfriend because we miss them so much, especially because we would see them at least once a week when we were living in LA.

After some thought and deliberation (Cancun?  Kauai? Myrtle Beach?  Palm Springs?) , we decided on Maui.  Aaron had never been and I had only been once before.  We are very blessed that Bran and T are owners at the Westin Villas and so with one phone call, we had a reservation for a one-bedroom villa on Kaanapali Beach in Maui. 

A word about the villa: awesome.  It is located right on the beach and so in addition to many beautiful pools, the beach and some awesome snorkeling reefs were right outside our door.  Also, the villa is a furnished one-bedroom with a full kitchen and laundry, etc.  Because of the kitchen and a little local grocery store, we were able to save tons of money by cooking meals and stocking the fridge with snacks and drinks (and kona coffee mud pie ice cream, thank you very much!)  The grounds also had some great restaurants and a gym, woo hoo!

Aaron and I flew out to Maui on a Friday morning.  We flew American to LAX where we had a 3 hour layover.  We had waited to eat lunch in LA but once we got to LA, we lamented that we wished we were craving something so that we could get a cab and go there.  As we started walking over to the international terminal to see what food options were there, we spotted a shuttle for The Parking Spot.  We knew that the Sepulveda location was super close to an in-n-out and so we decided to get on the shuttle and let it take us out of the airport.  From there, we walked up Sepulveda and got lunch at Trader Joe's for me and Baja Fresh for A.  It was delicious, cheap, killed time, and we felt like we had "beat the system" which is always fun. 

From LAX, we caught a plane straight to Maui.  It was 5 hours so that wasn't fun but before we knew it, we had landed at OGG (how in the heck did they end up with those letters, haha?)  Bran and T had arrived earlier in the afternoon so they picked us up and we had a traditional Hawaiian meal at...Zippys.  So awesome!  We were off to a good start.

We spent the next few days snorkeling, driving around the island, eating good food, and just enjoying each other's company.  We only had rain one day and the rest of the days were pretty temperate and a little windy.  Now that we're having 100 degree heat in Texas, what I wouldn't give for those Maui winds!

Just looking through these pictures brings me back to this awesome trip.  I'm so glad we were able to make it and so glad that Bran and T are willing to travel with us again once Baby E is here (you guys said that, right??)
