Mini-Babymoon/Anniversary Trip

The last weekend of April, Aaron surprised me with a trip to Fredericksburg for our anniversary.  I had never been to "hill country" and it did not disappoint.  My sweet husband rented an adorable little cottage through a company called Absolute Charm and it was honestly one of the most romantic and precious places I've ever seen!  It was like a mini-babymoon because we had nothing to do but relax and spend time together.  The pup was having a ball at the kennel and although we missed her, we somehow got by:)  Somewhere inbetween the sleeping in and afternoon naps and delicious food, we took a few pictures...

We arrived on Friday afternoon and checked into our cottage.  We were about a block and a half from Main Street Fredericksburg so we walked a bit and had dinner outside at West End Pizza.  Lame website, good pizza!  After dinner, we drove out to Old Tunnel State Park to see if we could watch the bats fly out of the old railroad tunnel.  They come out every night to look for food but because of the rain, the bats do not have to fly as far to get food, apparently.  So, they tend to fly later than usual and so it was dark by the time they decided to come out that night.  It was still nice to be outside, waiting, with this view:

We woke up on Saturday and walked to Main Street because on Friday night, most of the little shops were closed.  There's so much to see around there--great people watching and window shopping.  We stopped for lunch at Sugar and Smoke and dined al fresco again.   That afternoon, we drove a little ways to LBJ ranch.  The ranch was about to close but we got to see a little bit of the vast property it is!  On our way back to Fredericksburg, we stopped at Wildseed Farms.  There was a wine and art festival going on so the place was jumpin!  The wildflowers were just stunning.  We missed bluebonnet season by a few weeks but we still got a nice treat.

On our way back to Fredericksburg, we stopped in Luckenbach.  I didn't know anything about it but apparently, it's quite the famous little town.  And little it is.  For a California girl, it was pretty wild to literally make a right turn off a dirt road onto another tiny dirt road and...there's the town!  They were getting ready for some show in the dance hall--yes, dance hall--and so it was a cool little stop. 

That night, we had dinner at Kelly's Cafe, a charming little house with great food.  After dinner, we took a drive to Enchanted Rock.  It was a beautiful hill country road and we saw a lot of little (and big) critters.  The highlight for me was goats IN A TREE (didn't know they could climb).  The highlight for Aaron was probably these guys:

Sunday morning came all too quickly so we loaded up the truck and said good-bye to our sweet little cottage. 

We walked Main Street once more to work up an early lunch/brunch appetite and had a delicious meal at Bejas Grill.  Mmm, just thinking about it makes me hungry!  We'd definitely go back there in a heartbeat. 

It was a PERFECT weekend away, a very special way to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary (time flies when you're in love) and it makes me even more excited (if that is possible) for our actual babymoon that we'll be taking in June...
